Sentex was a major player in the United States for almost 20 years. Most of their tenure in the access control industry centered around Gated Phone Entry systems, keypads, and card readers. They produced their own products in-house, including electronic control boards in their Chatsworth, California production facility. In the early 2000s Sentex expanded into gate openers. Their innovations in slide and swing openers did not go unnoticed by Elite Access Systems, which was the #1 producer of gate openers in the United States at that time. Chamberlain Access, a major player in garage and overhead doors, expanded into the gate opener, and the access control industry acquired the biggest players in the gate opener industry. Sentex was acquired soon after Elite Access, and production of gate openers was almost immediately halted then later almost all of the other product lines were phased out if they competed directly against other product lines Chamberlain had acquired.
